Ground prepped, graded and laid with grass that takes root — Mesa, Maricopa County.
Sod is the one landscaping job in Mesa where the calendar decides half the outcome. Summer runs long enough here that grass laid at the wrong time of year simply dies — the heat pulls water out of a new lawn faster than a root system three days old can pull it back in — so timing is part of the estimate rather than an afterthought. The other half is what is under it. Irrigacion and sod is how Nefi pairs this work, and the pairing is not accidental: the ground gets broken up, graded so water moves the way you want it to, and given a line that actually reaches the whole area before a single roll goes down.
Under most 1970s and 80s Mesa yards there is a thin layer of topsoil and then caliche, hard as a sidewalk. Sod put straight onto that roots down a few inches and stops, then thins out the first time the temperature stays over a hundred for a week. Breaking that layer up is the part of the job nobody sees and the part that decides whether the lawn is still there next summer.
Water, rock, grass and shade — the whole yard, by one crew.
